Launching a groundbreaking digital payments solution for over 5 million Lebanese consumers featuring the first-of-its-kind digital onboarding with eKYC for Visa prepaid cards and an innovative wallet-based UI.
Wink Pay Case Study
During the economic crisis in Lebanon, one of the significant challenges consumers faced was the implementation of capital control measures by banks in late 2019. These measures included setting withdrawal and transfer limits on US Dollar deposits. Consequently, the result of these strict capital control measures caused many to lose trust in the Lebanese banking sector. It also significantly increased the number of unbanked individuals to about 55% of the population.
Wink Pay understood the dynamics of Lebanon’s banking sector. They recognized the need for an innovative experience to address customer needs. Therefore, they signed a strategic partnership with Codebase Technologies and Visa. This partnership aimed to create a payments mobile app that features modern banking functionalities. These include digital onboarding, instant virtual and physical Visa prepaid card issuance, and an innovative wallet-based UI. This enables customers to onboard quickly without needing a bank account or initial deposit. They can transact from anywhere at any time.
Moreover, the new service offers over 5 million Lebanese people a means to overcome the struggles. They can now utilize their existing debit and credit cards for purchases made abroad and online. Additionally, the Codebase Technologies team brought in our impeccable track record in implementing digital banking solutions. We used select feature-based modules of our award-winning Digibanc platform to create an innovative and customer-centric payments experience.
